In 2006, one of the company founders wanted to hire a company to assist in selection and installation of a modest home theater and HDTV setup. The choices were either an expensive high-end home theater store or a low-end big-box delivery service. Upon reviewing the high-end company's proposal and researching more appropriate technology and changing components, that high-end company installed a setup in his home. The setup failed to work and integrated poorly with TV service. HDTV was a minor and insignificant focus of the project for this high-end company. After more than a year of trouble-shooting and working with this company and researching technologies to solve the problems, the company founders, Tom and Jesse, decided they knew a lot more than this company and could do a better job. This particular high-end company went bankrupt, which we assume was in some part due to the lack of capability to adequately integrate the new technologies and HDTV services at an affordable price.
Late in 2007, Tom and Jesse founded a company to provide a service that fits between high-end home theater companies and big-box delivery services. Using their degrees in engineering and extensive knowledge in HDTV technologies, they developed a service focused on a designing solutions to specific customer goals. In addition, they recognized that HDTV service, channel availability, and technology integration are fundamental requirements typically not addressed by other services. HD Design Solutions works directly with customers, but can also work with contractors as an additional service, and can supplement high-end home theater installation services to ensure HDTV service and computer integration are considered and integrated with the traditional home theater installation. Plasma and LCD flatscreen TVs now come with integrated memory slots for slide shows, RSS feeds of traffic and weather, internet connections, and other other new technologies. No longer a simple “display”, the large flat panel can share equal time as a computer screen, HDTV, slideshow device, and movie screen.
Since HD Design Solutions is not a dealer for specific brands, and not a reseller of a particular TV service, we are free to advise clients on all of their HDTV options. Often, no additional monthly costs are necessary to enjoy the highest HD quality TV available. This kind of advice is not likely to come from a cable or satellite company with highly compressed (lower quality) HD feeds, because they benefit from your purchase of set-top boxes and premium channel packages. Cable companies provide free local HD channels via QAM signals on their traditional and basic packages, but you will rarely get any information about this even if you call them.
